Dynamic Modelling and Control of CAES, Flywheel, and Battery Storage Systems

In this presentation, details of the equipment and various components that make up large Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) and Flywheel Energy Storage (FES) systems will be described, such as the cavern, compressor and turbine of a CAES system, as well as the electrical machine and VSC-converter interface of a FES system. Dynamic models of the various elements and controls of these systems will also be presented, together with some illustrative examples of the application, response, and impact of CAES and FES in power system dynamics.
