A Probabilistic Approach to Define the Amount of Energy to be Traded in Hydro Dominated Interconnected Systems

The trend for decarbonizing the energy systems has put in place several efforts for deploying large amounts of renewable energy sources. As a consequence, it has been posing complex technical, economical and regulatory challenges. In electrical systems, one key issue is how to cope with the intrinsic random behavior of renewable technologies, e.g., the seasonal inflows in hydropower plants, and intermittency of wind and solar energy sources.
