The role of fault-ride-through capability of distributed energy storage for the mitigation of voltage sags in Low Voltage distribution grids

The expected integration of distributed energy storage devices in the LV network, due to the deployment of self-consumption strategies, offers a new layer of flexibility to LV distribution networks. Storage devices could have an active contribution for locally mitigate the impacts of voltage sags resulting from faults occurring in upstream grid levels. In this paper, Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) requirements as well as control solutions for power converters are identified and tested regarding its application within LV storage devices to be connected to LV distribution systems.
