Disaggregation for Networked Power Systems

Motivated by the tension between utility companies not being able to make data available due to non-disclosure agreements, and the need in the research community for realistic data for algorithm design, the release of aggregated data can be seen as a good compromise. However, both parties may still be skeptical of such an agreement because i) utility companies do not have guarantees that the ground truth data cannot be reverse-engineered from the aggregated data, thus putting them in a vulnerable position; and ii) researchers don’t know if the resulting reverse-engineered (disaggregated) models are realistic. In this paper we formalize this as an optimization problem that we refer to as network disaggregation
