Impact of network conditions on the harmonic performance of PV inverters

The paper presents detailed time-domain models of three commercially available single-phase photo voltaic (PV) inverters for harmonic studies. The inverters are used for roof-top applications and are expected to be distributed in LV networks in large numbers. The models are used to compare the sensitivity of the three PV inverters regarding different supply voltage distortions and grid impedance conditions. The effect of resonant harmonic amplification of inverter current is studied based on the harmonic impedance concept. Specifics of the PV inverter structure are outlined that define its harmonic behavior in weak grids with voltage distortion.
